"Amor en Ruinas" recreates the historical and political context of Israel in the 8th century BC

The biblical series Amor en Ruinas, produced by Seriella Productions in association with Record TV, is set in the 8th century BC, one of the most turbulent periods in Israel’s history. The plot explores the contradiction of a nation that, under the reign of Jeroboam II, experienced material prosperity and territorial expansion, while idolatry and social injustice became deeply rooted in its political and spiritual structure.

The biblical account on which the production is based explicitly mentions the monarchs who ruled during that time: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah in the Kingdom of Judah, and Jeroboam, son of Joash, in the Kingdom of Israel. After the death of Jeroboam II, Israel faced a political crisis marked by conspiracies and assassinations of kings such as Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, and Pekah—events that are part of the series narrative.

In addition to internal instability, the Kingdom of Israel lived under the pressure of the Assyrian Empire, the dominant military power that threatened to invade the region. Faced with this threat, Israelite leaders sought alliances with Egypt instead of trusting their spiritual principles—a decision that the prophet Hosea denounced as a symbol of unfaithfulness. The series, scheduled to premiere in July 2026, presents this historical context through the life of the prophet Hosea and his relationship with Gomer, portrayed by Murilo Cezar and Letícia Laranja.
